About Daniel

I graduated from Brigham Young University in April 2009 with a Bachelors in History. I have a great love of books. Throughout grade school, one thing I always wanted to do was read, and I did. Deciding what to study in college was difficult for me and I thought maybe I wanted to do History since I liked reading so much and I wasn’t a bad writer either. After a long college career and 5 majors later, I finally decided that I needed to stick with what I was good at. Reading and writing. I loved my history classes, but sometimes the “academicness” of the field disgusted me. During the time I was thinking of maybe pursuing an advanced degree in History, I met Brandon Sanderson at a local Barnes and Noble. He spoke with me for a few minutes and I told him how much I loved his books. He asked if I was a writer and I told him, “Sort of.” (For those who don’t know, history students write nearly as much as they read) He then invited me to attend his SF/F writing class at BYU. In his class, I found that I really loved creative writing. Like most people, I had always wanted to write a book. I tried years ago and failed miserably. I think I got to the 5th page in a Word document. A few months before Sanderson’s class in January, I had come up with the goal to write a book and I had a pretty cool idea for one. This class kicked me off and I have learned tons about character development, plotting, worldbuilding, and other essential storytelling elements. This blog will chronicle my journey through the hills of writing. I have several things planned that I hope to implement in the coming months. Keep visiting the site!
